Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient implementation of themine design systems including:

accessing and evaluating the relevant information and scope of the work necessary to meet the required outcomes

identifying and evaluating viable options and selecting options that best meet the required outcomes

identifying and evaluating geological and geotechnical information, and exploration techniques

accessing and analysing archival and historical mine management information related to the mine and failure mode of mine structures

interpreting and applying design criteria for mine management

selecting and assigning plant and equipment, and other resources to operate within capabilities and limitations

analysing hazards and risks, and applying mining constraints

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the implementation of themine design systemsthat meets all of the required outcomes including:

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

providing leadership by communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating clearly and concisely with others to resolve coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities

identifying the training needs of others and preparing training plans

demonstrates completion of implementing systems and methods of mining that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

applying the mine design system and its parameters and strategies

applying analytical process for selecting implementation strategies

assessing and prioritising implementation processes

developing and reviewing operating procedures relating to mine management

conducting and reporting on audits and reviews

writing reports to communicate procedural activity, breach or inadequacies to procedure and review process

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of implementation of themine design systems through:

the organisation and site requirements and procedures for:

work, health and safety

mining structures including: mine plans, ventilation, gas monitoring, strata support and safety management plans

applying and evaluating risk management processes

identifying and managing environmental issues, risks and controls

identifying and applying emergency response and evacuation planning processes and techniques

the systems and components for the implementation of mine design systems

team leadership techniques including:

roles and responsibilities of personnel

work planning and work monitoring methods

recording and reporting systems

questioning and active listening
